Memorial Day programs will take place throughout Lake County on Monday to remember and honor those those served in the line of duty.
Two programs will be held in Madison. St. Thomas Church hosts a 9 a.m. Mass at St. Thomas Cemetery. In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved to St. Thomas Church.
Madison's Memorial Day program is at 10 a.m. in the Madison VFW with a flag ceremony to follow at the Lake County Courthouse. Guest speaker this year is Richard Stearns of Madison, who served in the U.S. Army. The location was changed due to construction at the high school.
The Chester American Legion hosts a program at 10 a.m. at Chester Area School. The program features a performance by the Chester band, which also performs at 10:45 a.m. at the Wentworth American Legion program at Rose Hill Cemetery in Wentworth.
The Wentworth American Legion also sponsors a Memorial Day dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wentworth Community Barn.
An 11 a.m. program is planned at the Winfred Cemetery. This year's guest speaker is Bill Schaefer. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
The Nunda American Legion sponsors three programs, which are at 10 a.m. at Prairie Queen Cemetery; 10:30 a.m. at Lake Madison Cemetery; and 11 a.m. at Lake Park Cemetery. A community potluck follows at 11:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church.
Springlake Church, located 4 miles north and 4 miles east of Oldham, has a 2 p.m. program. Guest speaker is Harold Neuberger, former S.D. highway patrolman and Marine Corps veteran.
