The Madison School Board met Monday evening and set up a committee to research and discuss the possibility of starting a junior kindergarten program in Madison.
On the committee are three board members (Cami Sims, Ryan Hegg and Charlie Moore), along with the kindergarten staff, Elementary Principal Janel Guse and special ed instructor Paula Kingery.
Guse said the committee will gather information to discuss, such as input from the community, research data, and information on which other area schools offer such a program.
Questions to be answered are the length of the school day for the 5-year-old students and exact curriculum items, but Guse said the program could be described as something of a bridge program between preschool and kindergarten. The committee's work is a study for next school year, Guse said.
