The Madison Police Department reported a break-in during the weekend at an equipment yard in south Madison in which large amounts of copper wire and cable were stolen.
The Madison Police are investigating the incident as a crime of grand theft.
A local resident informed the city police on Sunday morning that the gate at a fenced yard belonging to Bob's Electric in Madison was damaged. The investigating officer arrived at the scene on the 200 block of S.E. 3rd St. at about 10:30 a.m. and found the gate pulled off the chain-link fence. Pieces of scrap wire were also laying near the entrance.
During the investigation, the property owners told officers that scrap wire, which was stacked on a pallet inside the fence, was missing.
The police also learned that the gate was last seen undamaged at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
