A Madison woman died in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Tuesday night on the city's north side near the municipal airport.
Lake County Sheriff Tim Walburg reported that his personnel and other first-responders were called at 9:04 p.m. to the accident scene near the intersection of 456th Ave. and 232nd St.
Walburg said Rebecca Rae Reese, 20, of Madison was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe south on 456th Ave. and lost control of the sports-utility vehicle as she negotiated a curve in the roadway. The Tahoe went off the road and rolled into the south ditch.
Reese and a passenger, Andrew Fonke, 24, of Fayetteville, N.C., were both ejected from the SUV.
Reese died at the scene. Fonke was transported to Madison Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Neither of the SUV's occupants was wearing a seat belt. Other factors related to the accident remain under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Other agencies that assisted with the emergency call were the Madison Police Department, Madison Fire Department, Lake County Search & Rescue and Madison Ambulance.
