Rosebud Manufacturing expands
By CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter
Rosebud officials expect workers to complete construction at the company's Madison plant during October, a project that should allow the cabinet manufacturer to expand production.|
Rosebud Cabinetry and Lodging Furniture is currently adding about 12,000 square feet to its facility located in Madison's Lakeview Industrial Park. The expansion project will provide added storage space and, in turn, provide more room for manufacturing space.
According to Brian Kern, Rosebud owner, the new storage area would allow the company to increase its production capacity and add more employees to its workforce. Kern said the investment was spurred by customer demand and goals to streamline production.
"We are experiencing growth in all of our cabinet lines and want to ensure we continue to provide a quality product in a timely manner," Kern said.
Kern said Rosebud would move some stored material currently in the plant building into the new warehouse space, and the company plans to add more employees and equipment. The expansion should take place this winter so the manufacturing company can prepare for the spring market.
According to Kern, the company typically cross-trains its employees to perform different tasks in the production process.
He added that Rosebud, a manufacturer of kitchen and bath cabinetry since 1965, has experienced increased customer demand for its products. Kern said that some of Rosebud's employees have stayed with the company during the last 35 years. He credited their experience and knowledge in giving the company a solid foundation to grow over the years.
Kern predicted that the company is in a great position to exceed its goals and allowing management to consider another expansion in the near future.
Rosebud offers its customers several modern cabinet lines having 30 door styles in nine different wood types and finishes. In 1985, Rosebud expanded into the hospitality industry, providing furniture for hotels, assisted-living facilities, and other businesses and institutions. The company also works with leading countertop fabricators and provides many samples in their showroom.
Commenting on Rosebud's expansion project, Julie Gross, executive director of the Lake Area Improvement Corporation, said, "While it's great to bring new companies to Madison, it's as important, if not more important, to retain the companies already in town."
Gross referred to studies that indicate 70 to 90 percent of new jobs come from expansions at existing companies.
"We appreciate (Rosebud's) commitment to Madison and are pleased they continue to invest in their Madison facility," Gross said. "Retaining and expanding companies in the community is essential to economic growth."
The expansion will create employment positions, and interested persons should contact Rosebud Manufacturing at 256-4561 for more information.
Founded in 1965, Rosebud moved to Madison in 1972. The company was originally located in downtown Madison, but the manufacturing plant moved to the industrial park in 2008.
Rosebud ships cabinets to 15 states with lodging furniture serving all 50 states. Its South Dakota offices are located in Madison and Sioux Falls with other offices in Minnesota and North Dakota. Showrooms operate in Tea and Dickinson, N.D.
