Madison Chamber seeks new executive director
By Staff 05/17/2012
The Madison Chamber of Commerce has appointed Michelle Ust as interim director.

Ust fills the vacancy left by Executive Director Julie Gross, who has accepted the position as executive director for the Lake Area Improvement Corportation.

Ust begins May 30 and will work for the chamber for up to two months or until a permanent director has been named. Ust, who is originally from Volga, recently moved to the Madison area. She is Gross' niece and will oversee the day to day duties of the Chamber, attend events and will report to the Chamber Board of Directors.

As Gross leaves her post as executive director of the Madison Chamber of Commerce this week, a search committee has been formed to search for a replacement.

Chamber Board President, Donna Uthe, says Gross will be truly missed because she tirelessly promotes the Madison area by promoting events, coordinating events, welcoming visitors and supervising committees.

"Our new director will possess many of the same organizational skills as Julie. They will need to be very outgoing, have managerial and budgeting skills, and work well with members and volunteers alike."

Earlier this month, Gross accepted a position as executive director of the Lake Area Improvement Corporation.

"We wish Julie all the best in her new venture. She will be a great asset to the organization," Uthe said.

Under Gross' leadership, the Chamber was honored with South Dakota's Great Service Star Award three years in a row. Many programs within the chamber have been enhanced including Leadership Madison, Madison/DSU Hosts the Legislature and the show and sell expanded to two buildings, doubling the number of vendors.
New programs such as Ag in the Classroom, familiarization tours and more exposure to Madison through statewide and regional marketing have also occurred.

The Chamber is actively seeking a full-time director and a job description has been posted on the chamber website at www.chamberofmadisonsd.com. Applicants should submit their resume by June 5th to office@chamberofmadisonsd.com. Mailed applications can be sent to the Madison Chamber of Commerce, attn: Search Committee, PO Box 467, Madison, SD 57042.
