The Madison School Board will have one new member and one returning member sworn in on Monday during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. in Room 117 at the Madison Middle School.
New school board member Camie Sims and returning board member Steve Nelson will participate in the swearing-in ceremony at the start of the first meeting for the 2012-13 school year.
The board members will first conduct one final meeting for the 2011-12 school year that will deal with all remaining bills and financial reports.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the school board will elect its president and vice president for the 2012-13 school year.
Following the election, the board members will deal with typical items that include reviewing the district's five-year capital outlay plan and the designation of its official newspaper, bank depositories, bonded employees, legal counsel, and representatives for state and federal programs.
Other items that the board members will consider include:
-- Approving participation in the Emergency School Bus Assistance Pact sponsored by the Associated School Boards of South Dakota.
-- Approving the publication of staff salaries for the 2012-13 school year.
-- Adopting the school district's policies for 2012-13.
-- Acknowledging the current board members of the Madison Central Educational Foundation.
-- Appointing the members for school district committees such as capital-outlay, budget review and food service.
-- Appointing surplus property appraisers.
-- Changes in school cafeteria meal rates that include the full cost of $1.30 each for student breakfasts and $2.40 each for student lunches. Proposed reduced-meal rates are 30 cents for breakfast and 40 cents for lunch.
-- Approving a completely-revised policy on Internet use.
-- Approving the designation of surplus items that include choir robes and sewing machines.
-- Approving an agreement for services provided by the East Dakota Educational Cooperative.
The board members will also consider setting a date for a planning and goal-setting retreat.
