Green presents brown-bagger Thursday

"Plain Jane Green" presents the next brown bag event at the Smith-Zimmermann Museum at noon on Thursday.
Green's talk is titled "Let's Write Those Stories." A Clark native, her program is intended to inspire those interested in writing a memoir but unsure how to begin.
A humorist, storyteller and author, Green plans to provide some fun stories and story-telling tips.
Cattle sorter, dog lover and prairie daughter, Green relates her misadventures of being a South Dakota farm wife, mother and grandmother. For more than 30 years, she divided her time between teaching high school students, raising four rowdy kids of her own, and trying to help her husband Jim with their farm. To say the least, many humorous adventures ensued and she decided to capitalize on them. Each story relates a special time in the life of the author on the prairie.
Through raising her own children and by teaching high school students, Green found that a good story with a relevant lesson often worked miracles in solving life's problems. With the addition of a little humor, the pertinent story would become the key ingredient to defuse a "life crisis" situation.
Green's goal is to document her life via the stories for future generations. Within each tale, she adds the comic twist of fate that comes from being called a "Plain Jane." The avenues of farm wife, friend, family member and teacher are employed to organize her thoughts and relate the adventures.
A major influence on her life has been the encouragement which she received from author Frederick Manfred to write her stories and publish them. He was a man of the prairie who liked a good story with a touch of humor.
Each of her stories speaks to Manfred's mentoring and her love of the prairie life. She hopes they bring a smile, a laugh and a little comfort to all who read them.
Green currently writes for several newspapers, The Cattle Business Weekly of Philip, The Farm Forum of Aberdeen, The Corsica Globe of Corsica, and the Western Ag Reporter of Billings, Mont.
She is part of the Speakers Bureau for the South Dakota Humanities Council (www.sdhumanities.org) and gives presentations to interested groups about her books and about her rural life adventures on the South Dakota prairies.
