A Mitten Tree to collect warm outerwear for children in need in the Howard area is on display in the lobby at Avera Medical Group Howard.
According to the clinic staff, the project, introduced several years ago, has been very well supported by the community. Thanks to the donations, several children in the area were gifted with mittens, gloves, stocking hats and scarves.
Families, individuals, clubs, church groups, businesses and others are invited to purchase outerwear suitable for boys or girls in grades K-3. The items may be brought to Avera Medical Group Howard during business hours and hung on the Christmas tree.
Shortly after Christmas, the items will be taken to the local elementary school for distribution to local children.
Avera Medical Group Howard staff David Malters, Misty Rudebusch, Jean Thompson, Amy Neises, Michelle Torgerson and Connie Ruml are working with elementary school teachers and staff to provide the outerwear to youngsters who are going outside without appropriate clothing.
According to the clinic staff, the goal is to fill the tree, and they are inviting the community to again join in this community Christmas project.
