Heartland Consumers Power District General Manager and CEO Mike McDowell has announced he will retire at the end of the year.
McDowell has worked in the electric industry for nearly 30 years, joining Heartland in May 2004.
He graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in education and political science as well as a master's degree in public administration. He has served on the board of directors of the American Public Power Association, the National Association of Municipal Utilities and chaired committees of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
He also served locally on the board of directors of the Lake Area Improvement Corporation.
"I've enjoyed a long career in the electric industry," said McDowell, "but I've enjoyed the past nine years at Heartland the most, because I've been blessed to work with a terrific group of people."
