Bicycle Safety Day, an annual community outreach program sponsored by East River Electric employees, will be held Saturday at East River's headquarters building in Madison.
The free event is intended to help children prepare for a summer of safe bicycle riding and will feature a bicycle safety inspection, safety video, safety course and an opportunity to learn basic bike maintenance.
Drawings for prizes including a new bicycle will be held. A limited quantity of bike helmets will also be given away and refreshments will be served.
The Madison Police Department will be offering bike registration, which aids in recovery in case of loss or theft.
Children from preschool to 5th grade are encouraged to attend along with their parents. Registration opens at 9:15 a.m. with the program beginning at 10 a.m.
"Bicycle Safety Day is a great way for East River employees to show how important their community is to them," said co-event coordinator Josh Bjorklund. "We believe this event falls right in line with our cooperative core principal `Commitment to Community'."
A required registration/consent form will be distributed to children in Madison and surrounding schools. Additional forms may be downloaded at www.eastriver.coop.
