The Madison Rotary Club received a grant of $2,000 from the District 5610 Foundation to help increase the recreational opportunities offered in Madison by constructing an equipment room at The Community Center.
In addition, the Rotary provided $2,500 and contributed 50 hours of volunteer labor for the project, which will create two separate equipment rooms.
The Family Rec Cave will allow members and guests to check out scooters, hula hoops, Frisbees, youth basketball hoops, jump ropes and other recreational items.
"The Family Rec Cave will be a great addition to the multi-purpose gym for family activity," said Aaron Walter, Community Center director.
The second room will be used by organizations using the multi-purpose gym.
"We have seen an increase in recreational activities from youth to seniors, including ball sports, racquets sports, senior sports and other activities. The addition of the equipment room will allow us to better meet current and future demands for gym usage," said Nick Lemke, recreation coordinator.
The equipment rooms will be completed before the Rotary District 5610 Conference in Madison on Sept. 12-14.
