Lake County Commissioners on Tuesday looked at the proposed 2014 budget, which comes in at just over $7 million. The budget will be formally adopted at the next commission meeting, which will begin at 8 a.m. on Thurs., Sept. 19. (The change in date is due to the state convention. In October, the commission will return to a 9 a.m. start time.)
The commissioners asked a few questions about the budget, particularly in regard to the $226,204 cash reserves applied to the general fund.
"Are we being good stewards of Lake County funds?" Commission Chair Scott Pedersen asked Auditor Bobbi Janke.
"The tax increase is only what is allowed by law," Janke said.
She also pointed out that the Debt Service and Search & Rescue funds are now included on the budget spreadsheet. Previously these had been done manually; now they will be included in the computer system.
