Howard High School graduate Jenna Kuhle is gearing up for her first collegiate indoor track and field season. The Augustana College freshman says her goal for the upcoming season is to get better each time she competes. "I want to build my confidence level and believe that I have the ability to do well at the Division II level. I have all the tools to be successful. I just need to believe in myself and visualize success," Kuhle said. "My goals for the indoor and outdoor season are to train consistently, stay healthy and positive, and post faster times each successive meet." Augustana's third scheduled indoor meet is Saturday. Augie's outdoor season ends around May. With the long season in mind, Kuhle wants to improve each week. "Improvement is what I am really striving for this year," she said. "There is no better feeling than to know that your hard work is paying off by seeing it right in front of your eyes and feeling it in every stride." She indicates that training is going well, thus far. "My individual training is going well, and I am having fun braving the bitter cold South Dakota weather," said Kuhle. While adjusting to the college level is difficult, Kuhle is proud to be a Viking. "It is so awesome to be a Viking. Running with a full girls' team and being around people who truly care about you and support you is not something I take for granted," she said. "I love being able to go to practice every day, knowing that everyone is there because they love what they do. My coach is very goal-oriented and wants us to strive for improvement every day." Kuhle said that she enjoys being pushed by her teammates. "Being able to train with older and more experienced people motivates me to want to get faster and stronger. Workouts are longer and take a lot of mental effort, and competition levels are much higher," said Kuhle. Overall, Kuhle said her athletic adventures are enjoyable. "Running at the college Division II level is much more intense than high school," she said. "I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to continue competing after high school. I always knew that I wanted to run at the college level because I love the essence of competition." Augie's next meet will be on Saturday in Minneapolis in the Jack Johnson Invitational.
