    Raiders 1-1 after two starts
By LARRY LEEDS, Sports Editor 12/11/2012
The Oldham-Ramona-Rutland Raiders boys' basketball team started the season on Friday night at Arlington and followed that up with a game against Freeman Academy on Saturday.

O-R-R raced past the Bobcats 55-33 in a non-conference game played at Ramona.

"We got off to a quick start and were able to put pressure on them all game," said O-R-R coach Larry Malcomb.

Mike Minor paced the winners with 16 points, and Luke Menor added 10 points.

"We got ourselves into foul trouble early, but the guys who came off the bench kept the pressure on them," Malcomb said. "We had some great minutes from our bench that made the difference."

Josh Thurow chipped in with nine points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds for the Raiders.

Gabriel Eisenbeis scored seven points to pace the Bobcats.

    Arlington 69, O-R-R 38

O-R-R got off to a rough start on Friday night at Arlington. The Cardinals flew past the Raiders 69-38 in the Dakota Valley Conference game.

Minor was the only Raider to score in double figures, as he dropped in 11 points.

"We were not able to keep up with their pace," Malcomb said. "They wore us down by pushing the ball up the court, and we just were not able to get back to stop their fast breaks."

Tage Hargens of Arlington led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Cole VanBockern added 11 points for the winners.

"We did a lot of good things and the kids worked hard. We lack experience, but these kids really impressed me," Malcomb said.

O-R-R (1-1) will be back in action at Lake Benton on Friday night, when the Raiders face Elkton-Lake Benton Elks in a DVC contest. The tipoff is set for 6:15 p.m.
