The Chester Flyers won their first game of the season when they downed the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland Raiders 49-35 in a non-conference game on Friday night at Rutland.
Mitchell Malcomb had 13 points and five assists to pace the Raiders. Ryan Schlisner added 12 counters and seven rebounds.
"We just took some bad shots and we didn't shoot very well," said O-R-R Coach Larry Malcomb. "I thought we could have took it inside but never did."
Jesse Kreutzfeldt scored 12 points for the Flyers. Austin Opdahl added 11 points and Cole Acheson chipped in with 10 counters. Acheson had seven rebounds and Opdahl had six.
"I did see some good things, but they were very patient on offense and were able to take a lot of time off the clock that put us in a panic mode," Malcomb said. "Hopefully, we learn from this and will be ready for the holiday classics."
O-R-R (2-3 overall) will face Hamlin in the 7:30 p.m. game at the Swiftel Classic on Thursday at the Swiftel Center in Brookings. The Raiders will face DeSmet in the 2:30 game at the Entringer Scholarship Classic in the Brookings High School gym.
Chester (1-4 overall) will swing back into action on Saturday at the Entringer Scholarship Classic against Lake Preston with the tipoff set for 1:30 p.m.
