    Harrisburg uses strong start to roll past Madison 64-30

    The Harrisburg Tigers jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead and went on to down the Madison Lady Bulldogs 64-30 at the Madison Middle School Gym on Thursday night.

    Madison cut the deficit in half, 8-4, when Madison Nipe went coast-to-coast for a layup midway through the first quarter. The Tigers closed the quarter with an 11-2 run and enjoyed a 19-6 lead.

    The Lady Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 10 (19-9) when Nipe hit one free throw with 5:38 left in the half. Harrisburg closed the quarter with another huge run, 17-2, and held a 36-11 halftime advantage.

    "Our effort tonight made me proud," said Madison Coach Adam Ericsson. "We had some girls really step up their games."

    Harrisburg outscored Madison 28-19 in the second half.

    The Lady Bulldogs made 10 of 38 field goals, 26 percent, and connected on 10 of 26 free throws, 38 percent. Harrisburg made 22 of 64 field goals, 34 percent, and hit 12 of 23 free throws, 52 percent.

    The Tigers held the advantage on the boards 35-19.

    Marinda Kern tossed in 13 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs.

    "Marinda really picked us up, scoring-wise. She got herself open and got some tough rebounds that really energized us in the second half," Ericsson said.

    Morgan Skluzacek added five counters for Madison.

    Morgan Kryer scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds to pace the Tigers. Hailey Halling added 11 points while Dani Conner and Brittany Blakney each had 10 points.

    "Jessica Neises came off the bench and played with confidence, which was great to see from her," Ericsson said.

    Madison (0-6 overall and 0-3 in Big 8 action) will host West Central on Friday (tonight) in a Big 8 Conference battle at the Madison Middle School Gym with the tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.

    JVs drop contest

    Harrisburg downed the Madison junior varsity team 55-19.

    Jordin Delzer tossed in seven points to pace the Lady Bulldogs. Skluzacek added five counters for Madison.

    Brenna Johnson pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for Madison.
