    Giles, Finck place in All-Around
By LARRY LEEDS, Sports Editor 01/07/2013
The Madison Lady Bulldogs gymnastics team placed third in the Patty Jorgenson Invitational at Brookings on Saturday.

Winning the team title was Watertown with 143.150. Following the Arrows were Mitchell 136.400, Madison 135.375, Huron 132.225, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 130.850, Aberdeen Central 129.625, Yankton 128.700, Sioux Falls Lincoln 128.125, Pierre 127.975 and Sioux Falls Washington, 111.775.

Madison had two gymnasts place in the all-around competition. Jenni Giles was fifth with a 34.800 and Lexi Finck was sixth with a 34.250.

"The girls have been working really hard in practice, so it's been somewhat frustrating to not be scoring where we would like to be, but I am confident that these girls will definitely step it up," said Madison Coach Maridee Dossett.

Giles' best finish was in the floor exercise with a fifth-place finish, 9.275. She placed sixth on the beam, 8.575; 13th on the vault, 8.800; and 18th on the bars, 8.150.

Finck placed fifth on the bar, 8.725; and fifth on the vault, 9.175. She placed 19th in the floor exercise with an 8.800 and 25th on the beam with a 7.550.

"We had way too many falls on the beam again," Dossett said. "That event is dragging us down two to four points lower than the other three events. This is a hard-working bunch of athletes and as soon as they develop the confidence in themselves, I think things will definitely improve."

Madison will host Vermillion on Tuesday in a dual meet that will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Madison Gymnastics Center.
