By LARRY LEEDS, Sports Editor 01/07/2013
West Central pulled away from the Madison Lady Bulldogs in the second period and went home with a 75-54 win in a Big 8 Conference game on Friday night at the Madison Middle School Gym.

The game was deadlocked at 15-15 after one period.

"We played an awesome first quarter. We handled their pressure and got the ball inside and had success," said Madison Coach Adam Ericsson.

West Central outscored Madison 22-10 in the second period and held a 37-25 halftime lead.

"We let them get to us on the perimeter and started throwing the ball away and getting rattled," said Ericsson. "We had a rough stretch of basketball in the middle of the second quarter."

Madison made 11 of 50 field goals, 22 percent, and made 31 of 44 free throws, 70 percent. West Central made 23 of 57 field goals, 40 percent, and 19 of 30 free throws, 63 percent.

Madison held the edge on the boards 34-22.

Marinda Kern scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to pace the Lady Bulldogs. Madison Nipe scored 13 points while Roz Vanden Bosch ripped down a team-high 11 rebounds.

"Marinda had a monster game for us. She has really shown up the last two games," Ericsson said. "Now I"m waiting for our next player to step up their game."

Madison Kuehl scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for West Central. Hunter Mathieu added 13 points and Kylie Hanisch chipped in with 10 counters.

Madison (0-7) will be back in action on Tuesday when Vermillion comes to the Madison Middle School. The tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m.

    JV drops contest

West Central jumped out to an early 11-4 lead and never looked back in posting a 45-29 win over Madison in the junior varsity contest.

Mandy Engbrecht tossed in eight points to pace Madison while Erin Meyer added seven counters.

Jordin Delzer and Sabrina Bloom each pulled down six rebounds.
