    Lady Bulldogs drop two non-conference tilts

    The Madison Lady Bulldogs suffered two non-conference setbacks over the weekend to Canton and Sioux Valley.

    Madison built an early lead against Canton but could not hold onto it in the second half as the C-Hawks downed the Lady Bulldogs 57-45 on Saturday afternoon at the Dakota State University Fieldhouse.

    The Lady Bulldogs held a 16-11 lead after one period and led 24-19 at intermission.

    Canton outscored the Lady Bulldogs 38-21 in the second half to gain the win.
    Madison made 16 of 65 field goals, 24 percent and hit 7-of-11 free throws, 63 percent. Canton made 20 of 59 field goals, 33 percent and hit 14 of 21 free throws, 66 percent.

    Canton held the advantage on the boards, 35-27.

    Madison Nipe poured in 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds to pace the Lady Bulldogs. Michaela Duff added 10 counters while Roz Vanden Bosch pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

    Janet VanDeStroet tossed in 16 points for the C-Hawks. Hailie McMains added 14 points and Atlanta Lundstron chipped in with 10 counters. Kirsten Twedt snared eight rebounds for Canton.

    Sioux Valley rolls

    Sioux Valley broke open a close game in the second period and never looked back in posting a 62-30 win over Madison on Friday night at Volga.

    The Cossacks held a 13-7 lead after one period but outscored the Lady Bulldogs 21-4 in the second period and held a 34-11 halftime lead.

    Madison made 11 of 43 field goals, 44 percent and connected on 6-of-17 free throws, 35 percent. Sioux Valley made 22 of 49 field goals, 44 percent and hit 11 of 16 free throws, 68 percent.

    Madison held the advantage on the boards 27-18.

    Marinda Kern tossed in nine points for Madison. Danielle Roemen and Vanden Bosch each had seven points. Nipe pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

    Kaylee Granum had 15 points for Sioux Valley. Carly Peterson added 13 points, Brinn Jensen scored 11 and Anna Keefe chipped in with 10 counters.

    Madison (5-13) will host Hamlin Tuesday (tonight) at the Madison Middle School Gym with the tipoff set for 7:45 p.m.

    JVs drop two

    Canton outlasted Madison 48-46 in double overtime on Saturday.

    Emma Marsh tossed in nine points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace Madison. Erin Meyer added seven points and grabbed eight rebounds while Sabrina Bloom had seven points. Brenna Johnson pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

    Sioux Valley down Madison 29-13 on Friday night. Taylor Bird had six points to pace Madison while Johnson pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
