By LARRY LEEDS, Sports Editor 03/05/2013
The Madison Lady Bulldogs fell one game short of making a trip to the State A Tournament. The Sioux Falls Christian Chargers downed the Lady Bulldogs 63-32 in the Region 3A finals on Saturday afternoon at Tea.

The game was close in the early going and deadlocked at 8-8 after Danielle Roemen hit two free throws with 3:36 left in the first period.

SFC went on an 8-0 run to close the quarter and held a 16-8 lead.

Madison could muster just six points in the second quarter and trailed 30-14 at halftime. The Chargers never looked back in posting the win.

Madison made 10 of 53 field goals, 18 percent, and 8-of-18 free throws, 44 percent. SFC made 23 of 57 field goals, 40 percent, and hit 14 of 22 free throws, 63 percent.

The Chargers held the advantage on the boards 34-22.

Madison Nipe and Marinda Kern each scored 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Emma Marsh snared five rebounds while Nipe and Roemen each had four rebounds. Roz Vanden Bosch dished out four assists.

Hayler McCarron poured in 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Chargers. Kristin Stern added 11 points. Kim Brands had five assists.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with an 8-15 overall record -- five more wins than a year ago.
