Green crowned champion in 132-lb. powerlifting class

The 35th annual South Dakota High School State Powerlifting Meet was held at the Madison High School Auditorium on Saturday. Thirteen schools and 145 lifters participated in the event. There were 120 boys and 25 girls competing this year. Schools that participated were Madison, Sioux Falls O'Gorman, Brandon Valley, Dell Rapids, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Mitchell, Watertown, Chamberlain, Garretson, Rapid City Central, Tea, Chester and DeSmet. Sioux Falls O'Gorman won the meet with 52 points. Following the Knights were Sioux Falls Roosevelt 35 and Dell Rapids 27. Madison had one champion in the boys' divisions. Junior Matt Green won the 132-pound division. He did a 375-pound squat, a 185-pound bench press and a 385-pound deadlift for a total of 945 pounds. Green set Madison records in the squat and total pounds. Other Bulldogs who placed in the top 10 of their respective divisions were as follows: Gabriel Richards placed third in the 114-pound class. He had a 145-pound squat, 110-pound bench press and a 225-pound deadlift for a total of 480-pounds. Justin Tucek placed sixth in the 114-pound division. He had a 105-pound squat, and 85-pound bench press and a 365-pound deadlift for a total of 365 pounds. Trevor Hoadley-Jager placed eighth in the 165-pound division. He had a 350-pound squat, a 210-pound bench press and a 335-pound deadlift for a total of 895 pounds. Jacob Callahan placed eighth in the 181-pound weight class. He had a 245-pound squat, a 175-pound bench press and a 345-pound deadlift for a total of 765 pounds. Madison had two place-winners in the heavyweight division. Ayson Jones placed sixth with a 455-pound squat, a 245-pound bench press and a 475-pound deadlift for a total of 1,175 pounds. Tyler DenHoed placed seventh in the heavyweight division. He had a 315-pound squat, a 210-pound bench press and a 350-pound deadlift for a total of 875 pounds. In the girls' division, Leslie Terwilliger placed second. The Madison senior had a squat of 145 pounds, a bench press of 205 pounds and a deadlift of 270 pounds for a total of 620 pounds. Haley Hansen placed eighth in the girls' division. The Madison junior had a 195-pound squat, a 115-pound bench press and a 195-pound deadlift for a total of 505 pounds. Outstanding female lifter of the year was Klarissa Kobernusz from Sioux Falls O'Gorman. Outstanding male lifter of the the year was Ramsey Christopherson of Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Strength coach of the year was Jason Whiting of Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The 36th annual South Dakota High School State Powerlifting Meet is set for March 8, 2014.
