The Madison Bulldogs cross country team participated in the first Dakota XII Conference Cross Country meet on Thursday at Elk Point.|
The Madison girls, led by Hailey Streff, captured the team title with a low score of 26 points. Following the Bulldogs were West Central 44, Beresford 55, Lennox 79, Canton 97, Dell Rapids 100, Dakota Valley 109, Elk Point-Jefferson 117, Tea Area 155 and Vermillion 158.
Streff claimed the individual title in the 4K race when she crossed the finish line in 14:37.40.
Madison had two other runners who finished in the top 10. Emily Hawkes was fifth in 15:14.39.
Cami Streff was sixth in 15:14.86.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was Madison Nipe, who placed 16th in 16:17.30.
Ashley Stromberg placed 28th in 17:08.82 and Brooklynn Hodges was 30th in 17:28.63.
In the boys' varsity division, Madison placed fourth in the team standings with 59 points. Winning the team title was Lennox with a low score of 32. Following the Orioles were Beresford 47, Dakota Valley 50, Madison 59, West Central 68, Sioux Fall Christian 83, Dell Rapids 130, Canton 161, Vermillion 177 and Tea Area 178.
Reid Guse was the first Bulldog runner to cross the finish line in the 5K race. He was 10th in 17:48.08.
Hunter Streff was 13th in 17:53.46.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs were Garrett Hubbell, 16th (18:16.96); and Edwin Iraheta, 24th (18:56.57).
Dallas Fernau was 30th (19:19.40) and Tom Rowland was 43rd (20:19.98).
Winning the 5K race was Caleb DeWeerd of Sioux Falls Christian with a time of 17:27.56.
In the girls' junior varsity competition, Madison had the top three runners. Karsyn Dorris was first in 17:08.91 in the 4K race. Amanda Rowland was second in 17:16.76 and finishing third was Rachel Hass in 17:35.14.
Other Madison runners who competed in the girls' junior varsity race were Anna Theophilus, 6th (17:49.04); Rachel Black, 18th (19:00.32); Jennifer Waba, 22nd (19:08.93); Raven Wallowing Bull, 25th (19:22.82); Anne Knofczynski, 42nd (20:08.44); Laurel Appelwick, 45th (20:20.61); Lexi Lentsch, 47th (20:24.60); Victoria Olson, 57th (21:31.02); Tayler Herold, 59th (21:42.77); Peityn Roemen, 66th, (22:16.93); Ally Gross, 67th (22:27.26); Grace Terrall, 73rd (23:22.73), September Johnson, 76th (23:46.85); and Alyssa Jones, 78th (24:45.14).
In the boys' junior varsity race, Ethan Hatch was the top Bulldog runner. He finished the 4K race in second place in a time of 14:43.75.
Kaiden Dorris also finished in the top 10. He was ninth in 15:04.67.
Other runners to finish for Madison were Sam Eliason, 31st (16:37.67); Federico Perojo Ortiz, 32nd (16:38.96.5); Seamus Donelan, 34th (16:42.16); Ben Curley, 36th (16:49.74); Jason Gale, 62nd (17:53.65); Landon Lentsch, 63rd (17:59.17); Hunter Drew, 93rd (20:04.83); Jared Thayer, 106th (22:04.16); and David Sanchez, 107th (22:06.60).
No team points were kept for the junior varsity divisions.
Madison will go to Flandreau for the region meet on Thursday.
