County gets funds for rec trail to public access
By ELISA SAND, Staff Reporter 11/12/2012
Lake County is one of nine recipients of state funding for recreational trails. South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard awarded $1.5 million for nine projects. Lake County's funding is $72,100.

The county recently applied for funds to extend the rec trail on SD-19 to the county's public access. When the state resurfaces SD-19, part of the project includes extending the existing rec trail to 236th St. Representatives from the city's recreation trail committee asked Lake County Commissioners earlier this year if they would be open to extending the trail to the public access to provide the public with a destination point.

County commissioners acknowledged the funding award on Thursday and said the State's Attorney's Office is reviewing the funding agreement for official action on Nov. 20.

Additional grants were awarded to Aberdeen, Belle Fourche, Custer, Deadwood, Dell Rapids, Murdo, Watertown and Winner.
