Parsley selected as minority whip
By CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter 11/20/2012
Scott Parsley
Scott Parsley of Madison, recently elected to one of District 8's House seats, was selected last week to serve as a minority whip for the Democrats serving in the state House of Representatives.

Parsley was elected to the junior leadership post by the House Democrats soon after winning his first term to serve in the state Legislature. He ran in 2008 for the state Senate but was defeated in the general election by Russell Olson of Wentworth.

Olson was re-elected by the Republican caucus last week to serve another term as Senate majority leader.

Parsley is employed by the East River Electric Power Cooperative in Madison as an assistant general manager for member services. He and his wife Valerie have three children.

Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton was elected as the House Democrats' minority leader, and Julie Bartling of Burke was selected as their assistant minority leader.

Peggy Gibson of Huron will serve in the other minority whip position in the South Dakota House.

Jason Frerichs, a Wilmot Democrat, was selected as the Senate minority leader.

For the Republicans in the state House, David Lust of Rapid City was re-elected as majority leader.

State legislators will convene in December to hear Gov. Dennis Daugaard's budget address. The 2013 legislative session starts on Jan. 8.
