Three seek medical care after Saturday night accident
By CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter 12/03/2012
Three persons sought medical care after a two-vehicle accident that occurred early Saturday night on the divided highway near the Lakeview Industrial Park just southeast of Madison.

The Madison Police Department reported that a 15-year-old female was driving northbound in a Ford Taurus with two juvenile passengers and stopped for a stop sign before turning west onto SD-34.

At about 6:50 p.m., the juvenile driver turned west onto the eastbound lanes of the divided highway, driving the wrong way at about 30 mph in the eastbound passing lane. At the same time, Leo Falconer, 61, of Lyons was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 east on SD-34 and attempted to pass a third vehicle at 50 to 55 mph in the 65-mph zone.

As the pickup and the Taurus approached each other in the passenger lane, Falconer and the juvenile driver each swerved right to avoid a collision, but their vehicles still struck each other.

The juvenile driver was transported by ambulance to Madison Community Hospital for medical care. Falconer and a juvenile passenger in the Taurus also went to the hospital under their own transport.

The juvenile driver was issued a misdemeanor citation related to improper driving on a divided highway. Damage to the Taurus was estimated at $2,000, and damage to the F-150 was estimated at $2,600.

The Madison Fire Department also responded to the accident.
