Show Choir begins competition
By ELISA SAND, Staff Reporter 03/08/2013
Show Choir member Jordan Heim performs a solo in this year's show titled "Out of the Mainstream."

Madison's show choir kicks off its competition season on Saturday at Washington High School in Sioux Falls and then travels to Adrian, Minn., on Monday.

The group of 28 performers is supported by a nine-member technical crew. This year's show is called "Out of the Mainstream" and features a collection of songs about entertainment, performing and art.

The show features songs from the musicals "Rent," "Billy Elliot" and "The Pajama Game."

Junior Katie Eliason designed the choreography for Hernando's Hideaway. The balance of the choreography was completed by former Washington High School Show Choir member Hannah Schumacher.

Musical accompaniment is provided by Darbi Howell on piano, Nick Petersen on bass, Izabela Howell on synthesizer and Andrew Gale on drums.

Performers in Show Choir begin practicing in September. The competition season is during the month of March. The MHS Jazz Band will also compete in Adrian on Monday.

The final competition for the Show Choir is March 16 at the Mitchell Show Choir Classic.

The Show Choir and Jazz Band have a local performance at the Dance & Dessert Night on March 26 at 7 p.m.
