Volunteer Service Network in need of more drivers
By Staff 03/18/2013
Sherry Bosco
Volunteer drivers are needed to support the Volunteer Service Network.

The United Way-funded program offers rides within a 60-mile radius of Madison for local residents who have no access to a vehicle.

Volunteer coordinator Sherry Bosco said rides are given to in-town appointments and out-of-town destinations. Drivers are paid mileage for out-of-town appointments. Volunteer drivers must be insured and have a valid driver's license.

"It's rewarding for our drivers," Bosco said.

The rides are typically provided for medical appointments. Bosco said that in 2012, 237 rides were provided through the Volunteer Service Network and 173 were out-of-town appointments.

Anyone interested in volunteering as a driver should call Bosco at Interlakes Community Action (256-6518).
