Madison firefighters manned two fire trucks on Thursday afternoon in response to an emergency call from the Mustang Seed facility located just west of the city's Lakeview Industrial Park.
Fire Chief Randy Minnaert reported that at 4:15 p.m., a controlled burn which was supposed to remove weeds from the property had spread to a semitrailer parked on the east side of the lot. Minnaert believed that the front end of the trailer -- which was used for storage -- was partly constructed from fiberglass and susceptible to fire damage.
No other property damage was reported at the facility on S. Washington Ave., typically referred to as Mustang Seeds' buckwheat plant. No injuries were reported.
Minnaert said the firefighters returned to the station at 4:42 p.m.
