Grace Episcopal Church in Madison is seeking help with "Operation Bedsheets," a program that supplies bed sheets to military MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals) units in the war zones of Afghanistan and Iraq.
According to Lt. Col. Eric Egland (Ret), the founder of "Troops Need You" of Reston, Va., "The MASH unit we are in contact with in Afghanistan does not always have enough clean sheets for the soldiers, and when we first heard about their need, they were resorting to using torn, blood-stained sheets and worn-out sheets from too many uses and washings."
When informed of this situation by Linda and Mike Parks, the members of Grace Episcopal Church decided to sponsor a drive to collect sheets for the troops.
"Operation Bedsheets" needs twin-sized sheets for the hospital beds. The sheets can be slightly used or new and can be dropped off at Grace Episcopal Church, 306 N.W. 3rd St., on Sundays between 9:30-11 a.m. or Tuesdays between 6:30-8 p.m. now through Sept. 1.
Anyone who would like to donate money to help defray the cost of shipping the sheets to Afghanistan can also donate for that purpose or for other needs of the troops. Make checks payable to "Troops Need You."
