The Madison Chamber of Commerce hosted a reception Tuesday for the education community (see page 1), and it's a great event to welcome new educators to Madison.
Representatives of each of the four school systems in Madison -- Madison Christian School, St. Thomas, Madison Central School District and Dakota State University -- spoke to give updates about what's new this year. We're often surprised how many improvements are made each year when all the changes are mentioned in one setting.
Each school also introduced new faculty, and we're certain the warm welcome makes an impression on someone moving to Madison from elsewhere. Madison Central Superintendent Vince Schaefer remarked that of all the districts he's worked for in his career, Madison is the only city in which the Chamber of Commerce had an education committee and a recognition reception.
The reception also featured presentation of two awards, the Educator of the Year, which went to Jenn Richards, and Friend of Education, which went to Paul Hansen. They are both worthy recipients.
The whole reception had a great spirit about it, as we recognized, thanked, honored and welcomed educators. We wish everyone involved a great new school year.
