Police investigate city pound vandalism
By CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter 06/12/2012
The Madison Police Department is currently investigating a recent vandalism incident that occurred at the city pound.

The city police received a report of intentional damage to property at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday when a resident reported damage to the city pound building and its door.

When the police inspected the scene at 800 S.E. 5th St., they determined that someone had tried to gain entry to the building but had no success.

The suspect(s) had slammed sandbags against THE door until the bags had burst open, and several scrape marks were made on the door and around the door lock.

Officers believe that the suspect tried to pry the door open and someone had actually pried apart part of the outside metal wall.

The officers also found a damaged window screen on the northeast corner of the building.

The vandalism incident involves a charge of intentional damage to public property with the damage estimated between $400 and $1,000.
