Madison Mayor Gene Hexom announced Thursday (today) that he will not run for another three-year mayoral term in the April election.
Hexom will complete his seventh year as Madison's mayor on May 1.
"I greatly appreciate the opportunity serve the citizens of Madison," he said. "It has been a high honor to serve as your mayor."
Hexom was first elected in 2006 to fill a one-year unexpired term of former mayor Royce Hueners, who died in late 2005. Hexom was re-elected to consecutive three-year terms in 2007 and 2010 when he ran unopposed.
He said that he has a sincere interest in public service and government affairs, and he may give serious consideration to serve in other positions when they arise.
