By NICK HUNTIMER, DSU Sports Information 01/17/2013
MITCHELL -- Dakota State University outscored Dakota Wesleyan 52-34 in the second half and rolled to a 73-53 win over the Tigers on Wednesday night at the Corn Palace.

The Trojans won their third straight game against the Tigers. It was the first time that DSU has swept the Tigers in the same season for many years.

Behind the perimeter shooting of John Lamb, the Trojans jumped out to an early 9-0 lead. Lamb scored six of those points on three-pointers.

The Tigers roared back with an 11-2 and led 24-21 at halftime.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half. The Trojans shot 30 percent from the field compared to DWU's 24.2 percent. DSU went 14.3 percent from the free throw line while DWU shot 60 percent.

The Trojans kicked off the second half with another 9-0 run, but DWU answered with its own 8-3 run.

DSU's offense broke loose and outscored DWU 26-5 to earn the biggest lead of the game at 63-41 with 5:03 left in the game.

DSU shot a blistering 70.4 percent from the field in the second half compared to DWU's 39.3 percent.

Lamb scored a season-high 28 points for the Trojans. He added five steals and five rebounds.

Tyrone Gordon, Jr. and Luke Lamb each scored 13 points and Cameron Krump had nine.

Luke Lamb pulled down nine rebounds for DSU. Marcus Smith had seven rebounds and Gordon had seven assists.

Jalen Voss had a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds for DWU. Kris Menning added 19 points and eight rebounds. Luke Bamberg had seven rebounds. Mike Lee dished out four assists.

The Tigers outrebounded the Trojans 43-39.

DSU, which received votes for the fifth straight appearance in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball national poll, recorded its fourth victory in the last five games. DWU dropped to 9-12 overall.

DSU (13-5) plays in the Dakota Tip-off Classic this weekend in Jamestown, N.D., where four former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) members meet. The Trojans play Jamestown (N.D.) on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center.
