Races set for city, school district elections in April
By CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter 02/27/2013
With no late election petitions arriving by mail, officials with the city of Madison and the Madison Central School District believe that all of the candidates for the April 9 combined election are in place.

Three men have filed petitions to run for a three-year term as Madison's mayor. The candidates for the open mayor's seat are Dale Davis, Roy Lindsay and Myron Moen.

Five persons have submitted petitions to run for three seats on the Madison School Board. Incumbents Tom Farrell and Ryan Hegg, both of Madison, will run for new three-year terms. Three newcomers, who also live in Madison, are on the ballot -- Susan Berry, Charles R. Moore and Rick Reyes.

The city and school district could have received eligible election petitions by registered mail after Feb. 25 as long as the papers were mailed before 5 p.m. on the day of the deadline.

Officials will hold the combined city-school district election from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 9 at the Downtown Armory.

Persons who want to register as voters in the city and/or school district elections have until March 25, 15 days before the election, to do so.

Madison currently has 5,573 registered voters. The Madison Central School District currently has 7,286 registered voters.

The Madison Central School District consists of many of the townships located in the southwestern portion of Lake County, plus parts of six townships in northeastern McCook County.

The Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce will host an election forum on April 2, offering an opportunity for the candidates and local residents to meet and discuss current issues. The Chamber's Governmental Affairs Committee has scheduled the forum from 7-8 p.m. in the city commissioners' meeting room at City Hall. The candidates will have a chance to introduce themselves, and audience members may direct their questions to the candidates.
