The Lake County Sheriff's Office was called to a two-vehicle accident east of Madison at 2:37 p.m. on Thursday for a collision at the junction of SD-19 and SD-34.
Before the collision, Margaret Joyce Jesse, 65, of Montrose was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus west on SD-34 and attempted to make a left turn from the divided highway onto SD-19.
Jesse was traveling by herself when she turned south and pulled her vehicle in front of an eastbound vehicle driven by Kenneth Ivan Terwilliger, 77, of Winfred.
Terwilliger was traveling with a passenger in a 2008 Chrysler van.
The sheriff's department reported that speed was not a factor. Jesse stated that she had missed seeing the oncoming vehicle, an error which was considered as the primary cause of the collision. She was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
Terwilliger was not cited.
Jesse was treated at the scene by ambulance first-responders, but she was not transported to the hospital.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Jesse's vehicle was listed as a total loss, and Terwilliger's vehicle received damages estimated at $5,000.
Agencies responding were the Madison Fire Department, Madison Ambulance, Lake County Search & Rescue, Madison Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
