Lake County Commission interviews are Tuesday

Lake County Commissioners are set to interview the three finalists for the open county commission seat beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The county commission meeting begins at 9 a.m. The three finalists will be interviewed for approximately 15 minutes each, starting with Ron Golden, then Jerry Johnson and Craig Johannsen. The interviews will be held in open session. The public will have an opportunity to provide comments beginning at 11:45 a.m. Following the public commentary, commissioners plan to convene in closed session for about an hour and announce their selection for the appointment at 1 p.m. The seat up for appointment is currently held by Chris Giles, who was appointed as Lake County state's attorney because of his prior experience in that post. Current State's Attorney Ken Meyer announced he was stepping down effective March 4. Following his appointment as state's attorney, Giles announced he would step down from the county commission effective March 3. Earlier appointments in the morning are as follows: -- 9:05 a.m., Giles, appreciation for service. -- 9:15 a.m., Highway Superintendent Scott Mathison, award bids for bridge reinspection and approve highway patrol resolution. -- 9:45 a.m. Emergency Management Director Don Thomson, county rangeland fire protection agreement, SDOEM resource ordering and tracking system, project coordinator for lake access recreational trail. -- 10 a.m., County Health Nurse Jen Fouberg, quarterly report. -- 10:15 a.m., Equalization Director Shirley Ebsen, county board of equalization schedule. -- 10:30 a.m., closed session discussion for pending and proposed litigation and personnel matters.
