The Madison City Commission approved on Monday a proposal made by the municipal electric advisory committee to hire an engineering firm to conduct an electric rate study this year.
The city commissioners agreed with a committee recommendation to hire DeWild, Grant, Reckert and Associates, a firm with a Sioux Falls office, to perform the rate study of Madison's municipal electric utility for $23,500. Jeff Heinemeyer, the committee's administrator, said the most recent rate studies performed for Madison took place in 1992 and 1985.
According to Heinemeyer, the city commissioners had allocated $25,000 in this year's budget to pay for a rate study. He said the engineers at DGR planned to immediately start working on the rate study and they should finish by late summer.
"It will be presented to you on or before Sept. 23," Heinemeyer said.
