Madison firefighters responded early Sunday afternoon to a fire call originating from the Twin Lakes Animal Clinic along SD-34 just west of Madison.
According to Fire Chief Randy Minnaert, a passerby noticed smoke coming from the clinic and firefighters manned three fire trucks to go to the scene. At the clinic, the firefighters found smoke coming from the roof. Clinic personnel working inside the building were unaware of the emergency until they were informed by the fire-fighting crew.
Minnaert reported that the firefighters found the fire originating from a furnace located in the building's attic area. He said the fire caused substantial damage to the south side of the building. The furnace was damaged, and firefighters had to tear apart part of the roof to verify that all of the flames were extinguished.
The firefighters stayed at the scene for about three hours. No injuries were reported from the incident.
