After holding a hearing on the matter, the Madison City Commission decided on Monday to rezone a parcel of land in south Madison, making it available for general residential use.
The city commissioners rezoned six lots on the northeast corner of S.W. 8th St. and Union Ave. from duplex residence and manufactured housing residential. The land is located west of a mobile home park.
The commissioners had received no comments concerning the rezoning request.
They scheduled a hearing in May concerning a request to vacate a right-of-way in Lakeview Industrial Park. Global Polymer and Lake Area Improvement Corporation officials have asked that the city vacate land on the west side of S. Industry Ave. The right-of-way was intended for future use as 14th St. in the industrial park, and is located next to the Global Polymer plant site.
The commissioners will hold a hearing on vacating the right-of-way at 5:35 p.m. on May 20.
They also granted a temporary easement to the South Dakota Department of Transportation that will assist the reconstruction of SD-19.
State officials requested the easement for city property located on the west side of SD-19 just south of the intersection of SD-19 and SD-34.
Chad Comes, city engineer, told the commissioners that he did not believe the reconstruction work would affect the recreational trail located on the east side of SD-19 that runs from the highway intersection to Lake Madison.
