The Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament is into the second round with just six more second-round games to be played at the Bird Cage in Sioux Falls.
In first-round games over the weekend, the Dimock-Emery Raptors slipped past the Garretson Blue Jays 5-3 in the first game on Friday.
The District 4B champions, Colman A's, made short work of the Lennox Reds 12-1 in seven innings.
The Alexandria Angels slipped past the Flandreau Cardinals 4-1 in the late game on Friday night. Brian Miller, a pickup player from Madison, had the only RBI for the Cardinals.
Other games on Friday had the Dimock-Emery Raptors beating the Garretson Bluejays 5-3 and Groton Locke Electric downing the Chamberlain Mallards 8-3.
On Saturday, two games were completed before rain halted one game and postponed another until Sunday morning. In the two games that were completed on Saturday, the Irene Cardinals beat the Miller Outlaws 3-2 and the Larchwood (Iowa) Diamonds clubbed the Mt. Vernon Cardinals 13-6.
The game that was stopped and then finished on Sunday morning was Canova vs. Volga. Canova picked up an easy 12-2 win over Volga. Madison pickup player Matt Burpee had a single and scored once for the Gang.
In the game that was postponed until Sunday, the Crofton Bluejays downed the Lake Norden Lakers 6-3.
The last two first-round games of the tournament were played early on Sunday. The Tabor Bluejays slipped past Cornbelt League's Lennox Only One 6-5; and the defending State B champion Parkston Mudcats derailed the Britton Lumberjacks 11-1.
The second round of the tournament began Sunday afternoon. Akron, Iowa beat the Wynot Expos 8-5; the Winner-Colome Pheasants downed the Lesterville Broncs 10-3.
On tap for Monday (tonight) are two second-round games featuring three Cornbelt League teams. In the first game at 6 p.m., Dell Rapids PBR will tangle with the Salem Cubs. In the late game around 8 p.m., the Colman A's will face the Dimock Emery Raptors.
Other second-round games include Groton facing Alexandria at 6 p.m. and Irene battling Larchwood at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
The final second-round games will be on Wednesday with Canova tangling with Crofton at 6 p.m. and Tabor squaring off against the Parkston Mudcats at 8 p.m.
