The Madison City Commission approved on Monday signing a professional services agreement so DGR Engineering of Sioux Falls can perform the work needed for reducing the emissions from the city's electricity generation plant.
The EPA has required Madison to reduce the emissions from the five diesel-driven generators that the city maintains in its peaking/emergency power plant located on its southeast side along SD-34.
DGR estimated that the cost of the engineering work for the project would amount to $48,500. The project includes the installation of catalytic converters and crankcase ventilation systems, new exhaust piping, and exhaust-monitoring equipment.
Madison is supposed to bring its generation plant into compliance by May 3, 2014.
