A new construction project will start this summer at the Bethel Community in Madison, kicked off by a groundbreaking on Thursday morning near the intersection of Egan Ave. and the SD-34 bypass.
Bethel Home officials, members of the building committee, governing board members and others will attend the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. The construction site is located on the southwest corner of Bethel's property near the facility's apartment building.
The building committee and other persons associated with the Bethel Community have planned the housing expansion project during the past year.
Construction workers will build two new duplex patio homes on the site south of the Bethel Home complex. The patio homes, which will have single-car garages for each household, were designed with a different style than the facility's cottage homes, also located on Bethel Home's south side.
Bethel Home will rent the patio homes to tenants.
The project's contractor will also build four new two-bedroom apartments as an addition to the current Bethel apartment building. The new apartments were designed with larger living areas than the apartments currently rented to Bethel tenants.
In addition, workers will construct automobile garages -- attached to the apartment building -- that tenants of the apartments and patio homes can rent.
Keppen Construction of Madison was hired to serve as the general contractor for the construction project.
