Local first-responders went to a rural farmstead in Leroy Township at about 4:45 p.m. on Monday after receiving a report of a serious accident at the site located about 5 miles northeast of Madison.
Emergency personnel, including the Madison Fire Department, were sent to 49555 230th St., the rural address for David and Carolyn Feige of Wentworth. The initial emergency call indicated that a person was injured by a piece of farm equipment.
Sheriff Tim Walburg said the Lake County Sheriff's Office received the emergency call indicating that a man was trapped under a crop harvester's corn head at a rural Wentworth farm.
David Feige, 58, was working underneath the corn head preparing the machinery for the upcoming harvest season when the jacks he was using to lift the machinery collapsed. According to Walburg, the corn head fell onto Feige, and he died at the scene of the accident.
