For the first time in three years, the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland football tasted victory on Thursday at Colman during the 26th Annual Co-op Bowl.|
The Raiders downed the C-E Hawks 38-0 in the final game for both teams. This was the 10th Co-op Bowl win for the Raiders while Colman-Egan has 16 Co-op Bowl wins.
"It was great for the seniors to end their high school careers on a win," said Raiders' coach Jason Hanson. This was the only victory for the O-R-R seniors in their career. Seniors on the O-R-R team include Justin Tolley, Robert Allgaier, Dustin Riedel, Brady Maher, Brendon Pitts and Dustin Jung.
After a scoreless first, the Raiders got on the board early in the second period. Skyelar DeVaney raced 46 yards for the first touchdown of the game with 8:13 left in the half. Riedel added the two-point conversion and the Raiders enjoyed an 8-0 lead.
Less than two minutes later, the Raiders hit paydirt once again. With 6:15 left in the half Riedel scored on a six-yard run. DeVaney added the two-point conversion and O-R-R held a 16-0 advantage.
Just before halftime the Raiders struck once again. With 34 seconds left in the half, Tolley fired a 10-yard scoring strike to Riedel. DeVaney scored the two-point conversion and the Raiders held a 24-0 halftime advantage.
"This was a big win and the seniors wanted to get the program going in the right direction," Riedel said.
Colman-Egan put together a nice drive and moved deep into Raider territory before an interception by the Raiders stopped the C-E Hawks drive.
O-R-R took advantage of the turnover and marched 70 yards to paydirt. Riedel capped off the scoring drive with a four-yard touchdown run with 36 second left in the period to put the Raiders on top 30-0.
The Raiders took advantage of another C-E Hawk turnover. Nick Skyberg intercepted a C-E Hawk pass and returned it 30 yards for the final touchdown of the game. Jung added the two-point conversion run to make the final score read 38-0 in favor of the Raiders.
Colman-Egan had a touchdown nullified due to a penalty in the fourth period.
The Raiders racked up 320 total yards, 310 rushing and 10 passing. Riedel finished the game with 108 yards on 20 carries. DeVaney had 85 yards on nine attempts while Skyberg added 60 yards on nine carries.
Tolley was 1-of-5 passing. Riedel caught the only pass for the Raiders.
"Running is our strength and we wanted to run behind our big guys," said Hanson.
DeVaney had five solo tackles and eight assists for the Raiders defense. Riedel had three solo tackles and 14 assists. Riston Wolf had three solo tackles and 10 assists while Skyberg had two solo tackles and 12 assists.
Skyberg and Riedel each had a pass interception.
"This was a whole group effort as we have worked had to try to get this program turned around," Riedel said.
Oldham-Ramona-Rutland finished the 2013 season with a 1-7 overall record. Colman-Egan closes the season with an 0-8 record.
After the game O-R-R received the Co-op Bowl plaque for a year when the 27th Annual Co-op Bowl is played.
