The Oldham-Ramona School District is seeking a second grant that would aid in the purchase of a new diesel school bus. Superintendent Tom Ludens said the district is submitting a grant for the state's Clean Diesel Grant program, which provides about 25 percent of the cost of a new bus. Ludens said that Oldham-Ramona received a grant last year, and it saved the district $19,000 toward the purchase of a new bus. Using this program, the district is required to purchase a bus that meets the clean diesel requirements with new emission controls. The board is also looking to refinance the capital outlay certificates issued for the latest renovation project. The certificates were issued at 2.4 percent interest. Ludens said the refinanced certificates will be at 2 percent interest, saving the district no less than $49,188. The certificates were issued in 2010 and are scheduled for payoff in 2025.
