County has full agenda Tuesday
By ELISA SAND, Staff Reporter

Lake County Commissioners will discuss the process they will use in filling the sheriff's position at Tuesday's meeting.

Lake County Sheriff Roger Hartman had earlier announced his plans to retire near the end of December. His position doesn't come up for re-election for another two years. Because of that, it becomes the duty of the county commission to fill the position until the 2014 election.

Commissioners will discuss their options at 11:30 a.m., following a closed-session discussion for personnel purposes that is set to begin at 10:45 a.m.

Other business before the commission includes 2013 liquor license renewals (9:15 a.m.), a visit from the Leadership Madison group (9:30 a.m.), and discussion with Emergency Management Director Don Thomson regarding 2010 Homeland Security Grant funding.

At 10 a.m., Zoning Officer Deb Reinicke will present four drainage applications and one application for underground boring.

Highway Superintendent Scott Mathison is set to appear at 11:45 a.m. to discuss a change order in the box culvert project at Lake Herman. Thomson will also visit about a 100-ft. communications tower that was declared surplus property.

Search & Rescue President Michael Johnson will appear at noon to discuss vaccinations for Search & Rescue members.

Welfare Manager Peggy Young will present an indigent application at 12:15 p.m.

Other items for discussion include a subagreement between the South Dakota Secretary of State and Lake County; Resolution 12-17, which outlines assignments for investment income; closing the county offices from 12-1 p.m. on Dec. 14; holding the last meeting of 2012 on Dec. 27 for approval of bills; and acknowledging the resignation of a deputy sheriff.
