Madison Christian School students learned about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association during a recent fund-raising effort.
Madison Christian School board member Melissa Miller said students were challenged to raise $200 through the organization's Pennies for Patients program.
"They learned about kids their age who've been through treatment and are already survivors," Miller said.
Students brought in spare change and contributed $1 toward participation in themed events like wearing pajamas or bringing a stuffed animal to school.
In the end, students raised $230.08. If they raised $200, they could participate in a beach party, which was held Wednesday afternoon.
