City to consider improvement project bids

The Madison City Commission will review contractor bids for 2013 improvement projects for the city's electric grid and water main systems during its meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at City Hall.|
DGR Engineering of Rock Rapids, Iowa, has recommended that May Construction of Madison receive the contract for making electric distribution improvements for a bid of about $128,000.
The city commissioners have scheduled a hearing at 5:30 p.m. for rezoning lots 6-10 of Hakeman's Addition and Outlot G of the Union Square Addition to general residential. The commissioners will also hear the second reading of the rezoning request.
In other business, the commissioners will consider:
-- Hearing a quarterly update from Julie Gross, executive director of the Lake Area Improvement Corporation.
-- Hearing a rural service district request from Randy Wiese.
-- Acknowledging a petition for vacating a S.E. 14th St. right of way and setting a hearing date.
-- Receiving an application for an outside alcohol sales permit for the Mochavino coffee shop.
-- Authorizing the mayor to sign a temporary easement request for the state Department of Transportation.
The commissioners have also scheduled an executive session regarding a consultation with legal counsel.
