New owners take over MDL

Break out the champagne; one of Madison's businesses has new owners. Luckily, Madison Discount Liquor can help with those celebratory needs.|
Besides the beverage offerings, the business gives customers the opportunity to fuel their vehicles with its Shell station affiliation and a chance to fill their pockets with winnings at the casino.
Tony and Lori Tillma and Todd and Rhonda Thyne are excited about their new business venture, which officially began on June 17, when ThyTil Enterprises purchased MDL from Ken and Kris Wede.
The partners were looking for a new business, said Lori Tillma, a new endeavor to expand upon what they already had with Valley Dairy Supply in Corona. The opportunity in Madison fit the bill, although the multi-faceted business "is a lot compared to just delivery trucks and cows," Tillma said.
Their first month has been enjoyable.
"The people are great and we really like it here," Tillma said.
However, the couples have school-age children in the Milbank schools, so they will be commuting for now. Luckily, their manager, Brandon Berens, keeps tabs on things locally.
"That sets us at ease," she said.
They don't plan any major changes -- just a few additions, such as casino specials in the future and "Drink of the Week" specials.
Next week they have several special events slated, starting with a ribbon-cutting at 4 p.m. on Monday, followed by grand opening festivities from 4:30-6 p.m. The rest of the week includes daily drawings and free giveaways, and on July 27 there will be a free hot dogs lunch from 11 a.m. to noon and a drawing for a SMART TV.
